Georgia Smallshaw
Artist Statement
My work is a considered exploration of combining
photography with digital manipulation and drawing with painting as they are successful
techniques for me to use within my art practice, which gives me the opportunity
to fully explore and experiment with different methods.
I aim to achieve meaningful, emotive pieces of
work from my experimentations, leading to a raised awareness of the controversial
aspects of my environment. My process involves the found image as a trigger to
ignite thoughts and feelings. Distortion is the main influence for my work and
experimenting with digital media has helped me discover that manipulating
imagery is a successful process for me to use.
I create work that I feel the audience may be
able to relate to understand and create an opinion or feel from viewing the Art
that I produce.
My work opens up a further discussion about
contemporary technology, the awareness of mental health and how serious it is
in this present time.
I aspire
to make the audience question my personality as an artist and the feelings I am
trying to express through the work. I feel that my work responds to and is
positively influenced by the teachings of Liz Atkin and Chuck Close who work in
different spheres of art practice.
