first year art and design - final major project

Culture

The final major project was based on culture and I decided to choose two different cultures to join together which was British and African vbecause I liked the idea of cultures being alot different but also the same so I tried to show this in my final outcome which was four small canvas's with different images on them which represented each culture but I mixed them together using African colours and patterns with british colours as well. I also used type and infilled them with pattern and colour. For this project I was influenced by pop art which is what gave me ideas for my final piece, a couple of artists that influenced me was Roy Litchenstein and .........
To collect my primary research I visited gallerys in London and I also found primary research from walking around in the town.

This is part of my primary research, I have drawn a small part of the London eye using pencil and fine liner.

These images are from a page of primary research from my sketchbook. I have used black fine liner and red fine liner. I have also used water which gives off a good effect of tone when it is added to fine liner. I used watercolours for this page as well.

I drew an image of a man which was dressed in red and black and he didnt move or speak which made it easier to draw him. I then painted it using acrylic paint. This is also my primary reasearch.
This is a drawing I did of a piece of work I saw in one of the gallerys. I used watercolours for this as the colours were pale and I thought that water colour would be the most appropriate media to use.

These are the drawings I did of some of Roy Lictensteins work that I saw in one of the Gallerys I went to whilst I was in London. I decided to draw and paint these using acrylic paints because I really like his work and it inspires me a lot.

This was my final design idea of David Beckham that I used in my final outcome because the patterns and colours represent Africa and David Beckham is a well known icon in Britain and I liked how it turned out.
