The first project that I was asked to do during my first year was based on formal elements. This project helped me learn basics about Art and Design such as shape, tone, line, form, colour, pattern and texture. I visited the Drumcroon Gallery and Manchester City Art gallery for primary research which helped me develope ideas for my final outcomes for Fine Art, Graphics, Textiles and 3D, but joined them together by putting them all on a canvas.
For Fine Art i put together a composition to put on to my canvas, For graphics I used a letter that I had infilled with pattern which I put onto the canvas, for Textiles I chose one composition to screenprint which was part of my canvas and for 3D I made a clay piece and also a wire piece which are both on my canvas as well.
This was one image of my primary research, it has got most of the formal elements in it such as, colour, line and form.
This was my final outcome for graphics and this is what I put on my canvas. I took the letter 'C' and infilled it with pattern and one colour but I also left white space.
This is my development for the Fine Art side of the project, I have used charcoal and gouache paint to do this.
This is the textiles piece that was put onto my canvas. I chose a pattern from the development in my book and screen printed using pink ink onto a piece of calico. I folded over part of it to make it look more 3D and more realistic.
These are the 3D pieces that I made to put onto my canvas one is a wire piece that I twisted together to create a small composition that I designed from images in my sketchbook, to attach the piece onto my canvas by stitching each each of the sides down. Another 3D piece is made out of clay which I designed using shapes in my sketchbook. I then glazed it before adding it to my canvas and todo this I used a glue gun.
