second year art and design life class work

Life class

I have developed lots of skills during life class such as drawing skills and making sure its in proportion. I have also learned how to create tone by using charcoal and chalk and I have also learned how to tone properly by just using a pencil.

To start off I just did a simple line drawing of Rick by measuring and marking. I find this the easier way as it makes the image the correct proportion and size. Before I start to draw Rick I put a centre line in so that it gives me a starting point.

I have drawn Rick from different angles and in different positions but to start off I drew him standing up so that I could get used to measuring. After doing this over and over again each week my work started to look more successful and I was improving.

I then started to draw him with an object to develop my skills further.

Once I had got used to drawing him stood up with an object I then went on to drawing Rick sat down from different angles, sometimes this was challenging if he was sat directly in front of me as it was hard to get the proportion correct.

I then progressed on to adding tone to my drawing by going over the drawing layer by layer to create the tone and make it darker in the places where it needed.

I have drawn Rick sat down and added tone. This was sometimes a challenge to finish the piece by the end of the lesson as I wanted to create a successful piece of work as well as working fast during lesson.

I think that this is one of the most successful pieces I have created as I think the tone looks correct and the drawing is in proportion. I did find it quite hard to get an accurate drawing because I wasn't used to Rick keeping his dressing gown on but I found that this is the best way to practice tone as his dressing gown had a lot of tone in it.

Here is a drawing I did of different objects and I found this a lot harder than drawing a figure because I wasn't used to doing it. I did think that this was a good way of developing my drawing skills as I had to look closely to get an accurate drawing and to get the proportion right.

This is a close up image of the head off one of my drawings because I found that the head was one of the hardest parts of the body to get correct and this is an image to show how much I improved throughout the year.
